In our last newsletter, I mentioned the importance of taking time to reflect on our lives, to identify stress points and to consider strategies for achieving greater peace.
What great news that you have opportunity to introduce a food as medicine model into your local healthcare system. What incredible impact that could have to, as you said, move beyond your local community. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you, Kim, and your father, from far away in Kauai (though I'm sure your mom is also a rock-solid support worth acknowledging!). Your commitment, integrity, brilliance, and humility (and great recipes) have touched me for years. Food as medicine is so powerful. My husband is soon to be receiving hospice care. His advanced dementia has taken its toll. Despite my working full time, spending time at the hospital, and not having much time for the exercises I love, I am holding strong and feeling well... in large part because of the way I eat. I have enjoyed this newsletter, as well as reading the comments of your readers. I look forward to hearing updates about this exciting new project unfolding. Mahalo Nui Loa and warm aloha to all of you, Nancy
Thanks so much for your kind words Nancy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you help your husband through this last phase of his life. Kim and I are spiritual people and believe that death is but a transition to something profoundly beautiful, but we know this last step is not easy. Thank you again for your kind words.
Nelson, Thank you for these sweet sentiments. Indeed, I see something "profoundly beautiful" in store for my sweetheart Chris who just passed a week ago. He is free from his tormenting mind and years of struggle. Peace
Hi Nancy, As I read you lovely post, I was in full agreement with all you said. I live on Oahu, and a dear friend of mine is facing a similar situation with her husband. Although his dementia is still mid-range and sheʻs still working a bit, her life increasingly revolves around care-taking. I send you my heartfelt support. Iʻm also happy to give you my contact info through Nelson and Kim, should you feel like reaching out and chatting on the phone. With warm aloha, Kathy
Kat, Thank you for your thoughtful message. I would be delighted to have your contact information. My husband passed last Tuesday, peacefully. Warmly, Nancy
Please keep me on the newsletters, and I do not need a refund on the annual subscription. I look forward to reading about your new endeavor and any other news you want share.
Ruth C. I am 87 years old just retired from a busy career. Praise God, I am active and healthy. For the past 12 years I have been plant based. My moto is "Let food be your medicine" After reading the China Study, and following you guys I was sold. Food as medicine is the way to go. This is the right road. God bless
This is exciting. Best of luck with the new endeavor. I was lucky to work with this population in a small health system collaboration and I know you will find it very rewarding.
Thanks for your support Kristin. It's interest that you have had experience working with this same demographic. If you have any other thoughts to share, please feel free to email me at ncampbell@plantpurenation.com
Hi Nelson and Kim, I just want to say that I second Nancyʻs eloquent comments, below. In my view, this is the way the world should go, and I wish you all the best with this endeavor. I will be following along, and looking forward to your updates. Many thanks for all you do. Sending my best wishes, Kathy
