The Biological Impact of Stress, Part 2
Blood sugar, appetite, immunity, and inflammation
As I explained in prior newsletters, I believe there are two main pillars of health – plants and peace. Of these, I think the peace pillar is hard to establish, mostly because we live in a modern society that encourages us to live in ways that are antithetical to our true nature.
The absence of peace manifests as stress, whether we acknowledge it or not. Many of us often feel like we have a good handle on our stress, but often that means we’re only stuffing it someplace deep so we can ignore it. I am confident saying this because I’ve done this in my own life.
Stress has serious impacts on our physical and mental health. In the last newsletter, I talked about the effects of stress on blood pressure and heart health. In this letter, I’d like to discuss how stress affects blood sugar and insulin, appetite, immune function, and inflammation.
